The main minerals of calcined bauxite are diaspore and high-alumina silica. The content of diaspore increases with the increase of the ratio of aluminum oxide to silicon dioxide. Various high-alumina bricks made from its clinker are refractory or anti-corrosion materials widely used in the metallurgical industry and other industries, and are used on the top of electric furnaces, blast furnaces and hot blast furnaces.
Calcined bauxite is one of the principal ore of aluminum. Calcined bauxite contains hydrous aluminum oxides and aluminum hydroxides, formed through the laterization of aluminous rocks in tropical and subtropical areas .calcined bauxite is obtained by calcining (heating)superior grade bauxite at high temperature (from 85OC to 1600C) .this removes moisture thereby increasing the alumina content. compared to an alumina content of about 57%to 58%in raw bauxite, calcined bauxite has an alumina content of 84%to88%.
Refractory materials: calcined bauxite is an important raw material for making refractory materials such as refractory bricks and refractory castables.
Ceramic industry: used to make high-alumina ceramic products.
Chemical industry: used as a catalyst carrier or chemical raw material.
Abrasives: used to make grinding tools and abrasives
